EXAMPLE
The north-west corner of Yonge and
Eglinton is another great example of "its2big" partnered with
flip-flop.
Back in 2004, when the buildings were owned by Greenwin, they had
proposed the "crystal palace" - a glass enclosure of the public open
space. The community spoke out against such a proposal and had the
support of the Ward Councillor. Greenwin backed off and in fact
sold the buildings.
Fast forward to 2010.
Rio-Can has been the owner of the land and buildings for several years
and proposes to not only close-in the public open space but to add extra
storeys to the existing 2 office buildings.
Many in the Community were comforted to know the Ward Councillor stood
in opposition to such a plan. WRONG!
Despite the public's outcry that the public open space should be left
open and public, the Councillor, though just a few short years earlier
opposed a very similar proposal - comes out in favour of the
developer and does not support her constituents!
Yes, another example of "its2big"!!!
