OTHER
EXAMPLES
1. Proposed Soccer Dome in Memorial Park: A proposal for a soccer
dome was brought forward in 2008. A complex proposal that involved
the City and the TDSB. While the final proposal never came
forward, to many it was clear the Councillor was not particularly
supportive of the residents who would be effected. The elected
official who presented most objective thinking was School Trustee
Howard Goodman.
2. Parking Changes on Castlefield and St. Clements: The City drew
up plans in October of 2007. The residents to be impacted were
notified on the Canada Weekend that a meeting of North York Community
Council was to discuss the changes on July 7. These changes would
have had a significantly negative impact on the people living on
these streets. Why were those people not informed until about a
week before the Council Meeting? Why was the Councillor not more
forthcoming? Result - Community became involved and won.
3. 1046 Avenue Road: The site of the former St. Margaret's Church
is soon to be something else. Will it fall into "its2big"?
Time will tell. What is known is the Councillor's office has made
it known that townhouses might be proposed for thee site. What the
Councillor's office has not let it known is there is an application for
a change in the easement abutting the property. An obvious first
step to something - but what? And, why would the Councillor's
office not inform the community of this first step? |
